Albany Aldermen approve energy agreement and abate taxes on vacant properties

The City of Albany's Board of Aldermen met earlier this week.
City Administrator for Albany, Derek Brown, says one of the main agenda items was assisting low income households with utility costs.

"We approved an energy assistance supplier agreement with the state of Missouri.  So as a utility provider we sometimes accept payments from government programs to assist people with paying their power or gas bills."

Brown also says that taxes were eased for a development project.

"..some tax abatements for a local organization that's cleaning up vacant properties here in town.  There was I believe 2 or 3 different properties that had the past due taxes abated after this organization was able to acquire those properties, tear down vacant structures on them, and clean them up."

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be November 5th.
